So what's with this "Wishlist" thing anyway...
To make a long story short, I wanted to build a simple web-based system where my friends and family could signon and share gift ideas for the holidays. Out of that idea the Wishlist system was born. Give it a test drive and let me know where you see room for improvement. Thanks!
Here's how it works...
- First you'll want to create an account for yourself but before you do that you may want to read through this summary.
- After you've created an account you will be presented with a page showing Your Wishlist. You can add items to your wishlist and remove items as needed. From this page you can also
create a group.
- Groups are a very important part of the wishlist. After you create a group you can then add people to that group. These people don't have to have existing wishlist accounts. If they don't have
an account simply adding their first name, last name and email address to the group will automatically create an account for them and send them a welcome email with full instructions on how to log in to the wishlist themselves.
- Once you have a good group of friends and family each person can see the items on one another's wishlists, BUT you can't see the items which have been marked as "taken" off your own wishlist. This allows you to mark and item as
"taken" so that everyone else knows not to purchase that same item but the person who's item you marked will not know that it's been taken.
- Once you've created a few groups (maybe one for each side of your family, or one for a group of friends), your Wishlist will stay with you and be shown across all the various groups you're in. In other words, you have one wishlist for yourself that everybody can see and take items from.
- So, I'd recommend just diving in as it makes more sense once you're using the wishlist for yourself!
- Feel free to shoot me any questions you may have in the process.
- Josh
